Teacher Training Routes 2021 – 2022

Courses do vary from year to year. At present we offer the following programmes:

School Direct Salaried Training Route

This is an employment-based route into teaching where the trainee is employed by the host school as an unqualified teacher. In the salaried route your fees are paid and you receive a salary of approximately £19,000 per year on a one year contract (exact salary TBC).

Candidates must be graduates with three or more years’ relevant experience but not necessarily in education.

We are asking our salaried trainees to teach from day one and would expect them to have some experience of leading lessons with children. You will be based in class for majority of the week and will attend lectures and seminars at your university on set days.

All School Direct routes last 1 year and will lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

School Direct Tuition Training Route (non-salaried)

This is a PGCE based course; in the tuition route you pay the fees of up to £9250.

This is a more gradual introduction into teaching.

You will observe lessons and then gradually take parts of lessons before taking responsibility for lessons and then sequences of lessons. You will be supported in preparing and delivering these lessons throughout your time within your teaching practice.

All School Direct routes last 1 year and will lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Teaching Apprenticeship Training Route

This is similar to the Salaried School Direct Route. You will be based in class for majority of the week and will attend lectures and seminars at your university on set days. You will have a timetable from day one and be responsible for your class. You will receive support from your mentor and your school as well as having a bespoke programme where you get to meet up with other trainees across the Trust. There is an End Point Assessment which usually takes place in October.

This route lasts 4 terms and will lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and you will gain a Teaching Apprenticeship.

You will be well supported in all three routes within school and receive support and training by our highly skilled Leaders from across the Elston Hall Learning Trust and St Bartholomew’s Multi Academy Trust. We will place you in schools across our Trust and will be looking to develop exceptional candidates into the outstanding teachers of the future.
